Button Soup Tarot is a Multi-Artist, collaborative deck from the members of Cult of Tarot Forum.
We have a real passion for the art of tarot cards. The CoT forum supports artists and their work in every way we can. Connecting beautiful decks with the people who love them is a big part of what we are about.
It was only natural that we would create our own deck, and we called it Button Soup Tarot.
39 artists contributed to this deck including M.M. Meleen, Benebell Wen, Pamela Steele, Attila Blaga, Jessica Henry, Yasmeen Westwood, Melissa Wotherspoon, Julianne Victoria, and many more.
Button Soup Tarot is the creation of a group focused on one goal: to create a real and readable Tarot deck that expresses a vibrant spirit. The result is charming and fun, yet steeped in meaning, mystery, and symbolism.
The Card Back
We have the great honour of having our card-back designed by M.M. Meleen, creator of The Tabula Mundi Tarot and The Rosetta Tarot. She’s designed something quite extraordinary for us incorporating the theme of the deck, classic symbols of the tarot and even the Cult of Tarot logo.
It’s a remarkable and inspired work.
Special Feature
Each piece of art created for this deck has been placed within a frame designed to bring a unity to the varied styles presented. Every aspect of the frame was carefully chosen to accentuate the individuality of each work while at the same time pulling everything together to form a unified and cohesive deck of cards.
On each card, the art is “matted” with a thin gold-foil edge. The text is also stamped in gold foil.
The result of this extra touch brings these cards to another level, one that truly celebrates the artistry that has gone into every single card.
Each deck consists of: 78-cards, standard tarot size, 70x120mm, printed on 350gsm Art Paper cardstock with a smooth matte finish, with gold foil trim on each card face (see pic above) and gold foil edging. The deck comes in a decorative printed and very sturdy 2-piece cardboard box.
The deck also comes with a wonderfully original 100-page guidebook authored by the artists.

There are no good reasons to avoid buying this wonderful deck. I’m not sure there are even bad reasons. In spite of the fact that it’s a collaboration deck, it looks and feels like an organic work fuelled by a single mind. An amazing achievement from an amazing community of tarot lovers.

Congratulations, all you Button Soupers. The members of the Cult of Tarot website who collaborated to create this should be very proud. For the last week I have been really enjoying doing readings with this lovely deck. The fact that 40 different artists contributed cards makes for a variety that encourages fresh approaches to questions in readings. Even though the deck is based firmly on the ideas that inspired the classic Rider-Waite-Smith deck, the juxtaposition of disparate images can take interpretations off in completely unexpected directions. The companion book (LWB) that comes boxed with the cards is delightful. Every card receives its own commentary and each artist gets to explain their thought processes. I understand that the participants enjoyed the experience so much that they intend to make a second deck together at some time in the near future. I know already that I will have to buy that one as well.

In a way, a collaborative deck speaks more to the heart of tarot because randomization is how we generate psychic or intuitive information!
I love the way the cards work together. I love having a sampling from so many different artists! It works really well and is quickly becoming one of my favs.
It’s also a deck by tarot enthusiasts! So you will get layers of meaning, and many interesting viewpoints on tarot!
