I was disappointed to miss this deck the first time, so I was really happy to see that a second edition was being funded on Kickstarter. It was worth the wait. The deck explores the beautiful, wild, and tragic Berlin art world of the Weimar Republic. The LWB card descriptions explain the meanings of the cards within historical context of the images they contain. I don’t know a lot about this period of history, but this is a fascinating way to learn. The deck box and card stock are also of very high quality. This deck is just such an amazing project and so well done.

What a wonderful deck. Each card has a figure and some art that is evocative of Berlin of that period. It is dark and glittering and thrilling and thought provoking, all the more because we know what came after the Weimar Republic. The matte finish of the cards make them sit wonderfully in the hand. The descriptions in the LWB make the experience even better. I’m so happy to have gotten this!

This is a visually arresting and beautifully-produced deck that oozes sassiness. It is made for adults and is refreshingly unembarrassed, like the Weimar Republic itself, to confront issues of sex, gender equality, and LGBTQ rights. The companion book is full of information about the personalities featured on the cards and perfectly captures the adventurous spirit of the time. The cardstock is green foil-edged with a matte finish that is pleasant to the touch and shuffles easily.
Though set in Berlin in the period between the wars, 1919-1933, I cannot think of another contemporary deck that has so many parallels to the time in which we now live: the rise of fascism, widespread poverty, war, disease, moral decay, and disaster everywhere, but also a wild determination to extract as much enjoyment from life as possible. There is something heroic about the individualism and sheer excess that we associate with the time of the Weimar Republic. People were pushing the limits of what was considered allowable behaviour. The Jungian “shadow” was embraced and anything seemed possible.
The imagery on the cards is lively and uncluttered, though adhering to the RWS model of including the prerequisite number of suit symbols on each of the minor cards. The colour coding of the suits is unobtrusive but effective, especially for readings with a larger number of cards, to enable us to see at a glance which suit dominates the spread. Fans of the RWS/Golden Dawn system of meanings will feel immediately at home with this deck.
In the Weimar Tarot you will find partying, nudity, and all sorts of naughtiness, but all contained within a the framework of carefully organised working tarot deck. It is also often very funny. Despite the darkness of the time, the mood of this deck is unabashedly celebratory.

I missed the first edition of this deck and am so happy that I have this edition! The artwork is beautiful! Cardstock and box are thick and sturdy and the green metallic edging is stunning. The companion book is full of history and details of the lives of the people in the cards with enough info to feel complete or as a spring board to research more. There is a full bibliography for more research and I have ordered two of the books already. It feels so apropos to the negatives we are dealing with culturally while celebrating life and passions, this gives the deck a real balance. I have used this deck every day since it arrived. This deck is so special I ordered a backup so I never have to be without this deck!

I LOVE this deck!! I was obsessed when I stumbled across with the images online a couple of years ago, only to find out the first edition was out of print. I was devastated, but then I found it was in Kickstarter for this new edition! The cards are absolutely exquisite. The card stock is sturdy and perfect. The green metallic absinthe color edging is stunning. The attention to detail is wonderful. The companion book is enlightening. These cards have hutzpah, just like the German 1920s that inspired the deck. They have been great for readings. A must have for those intrigued by the mystery, fashion and avant-garde art of the time period. Bravo!!!
